VCT (vinyl composition tile) is a great commercial flooring option that is a mixture of natural limestone, thermoplastic binder, color pigments, and other filler materials. VCT comes in many colors, patterns, and styles and is made by fusing chips into solid sheets that are then cut into tiles. Due to their porous surface, VCT floors require several layers of polish to protect them.
VCT flooring is primarily used in commercial and institutional locations and is frequently chose to be used in high-traffic areas due to the low cost, durability, and lower level of maintenance required. The tiles used are highly scuff and damage resistant and can be repeatedly refinished by stripping and waxing. At Michigan’s Finest Floor Care, we have maintenance plans and services that fit every budget to keep your floor in great shape and last for decades.
VCT Stripping and Waxing - During a strip and wax servicing, we remove any worn wax coatings or layers of protections along with any dirt and debris that has become embedded into the layers of wax. First, we completely strip the floor of its coating, then clean it so that we have a perfect base to protect and shine. Next, we apply 2-4 coats of wax, depending on the amount of traffic and desired level of shine you want to achieve.
VCT Scrub and Recoat - During a scrub, we only remove a small layer, completely rinse the floor to remove some of the worn protection and dirt, then reapply the wax protection to the floor. We recommend this be done on a month basis, every other month, or quarterly basis depending on your needs.
VCT Spray Buff - If your floor has become dull, we clean the floor and buff it to make the floor shine on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis depending on the amount of traffic the floor receives.
By properly maintaining your VCT floor, you can keep your flooring looking great for years, if not decades. Regularly maintaining your VCT floor is vital to limit permanent staining in the tile itself, protect the integrity of the floor, and ensure it looks as good as the day it was installed.
